Design discussions 02 + OST RELEASE!!

I'm happy to announce that the soundtrack for Pickin' Panki has finally been completed. This is a big step toward the eventual release of 1.0.

Early on in development I had no idea what the game would sound like. After searching for a suitable composer for several months I went with one I thought had a nice, unique style and little experience working professionally. I had this idea that someone like that would pour all their energy into my project and be less likely to treat it like just another paycheck. Over the last few years me and Tudd threw ideas back and fourth; Him coming up with new concepts and me commenting on them and making suggestions.

I wanted something energetic with strong percussion and a sprinkle of chiptune goodness. At the same time I wanted to give the composer as much creative freedom as possible. Music could end up sounding way different that I imagined, so I tried not to push for any existing game OSTs as inspiration. Things progressed very smoothly and the end result is something I'm very proud of.

Music is very important to the overall game experience. It can help set the mood, control the pacing and be something you can hum along to while playing. Some of the tracks were composed before I even knew what the visuals would look like. After listening to the finished track I imagined what sort of scene would fit. One example is the scrolling title card with the kid playing the drum in beat to the music.

Every track, except for a couple of jingles have been uploaded to Tudd's Soundcloud.

Have a listen!
